The appeals court’s decision comes just days after the White House released the online application for the document.

In response to the appeals court’s decision, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the Biden administration would move “full speed” with its preparations while complying with the arrangement.

We will continue to press ahead with our preparations in accordance with this order. And, the administration will continue to fight Republican officials who are suing to block our efforts to provide relief to working families,” Jean-Pierre said. “Tonight’s temporary order does not prevent borrowers from applying for a student debt relief at studentaid. eligible borrowers to join the roughly 22 million Americans the Department of Education already has information about. It also doesn’t prevent us from reviewing those requests and preparing them for forwarding to loan servicers.”

“It is also important to note that the order does not reverse the dismissal of the case by the trial court, nor does it suggest that the case has merit. It simply prevents the cancellation of the debt until until the court makes a decision,” she added.
