Summary

  • When the right employees are engaged and motivated, their productivity is high.

Lisa, a mid-sized business owner, was frustrated with the issues she was facing in her business. She had a high turnover rate because most of the recruits did not fit their roles or the culture of the company, which caused them to leave without notice.

The employees were disengaged and were not performing. She knew a lot of missed deadlines from employees due to poor work being done. Employees showed up late for work and there was absenteeism when hiring. Motivation and morale of the staff were low and many conflicts kept cropping up. This environment also affected the engaged employees, making the workplace toxic for them.

As a result, Lisa found herself losing a lot of business and her brand was destroyed. She was always tired of picking up badly done work by staff. She always found herself fighting fires. She has spent a lot of time and money replacing and training employees. With all of this, she was running out of time to focus on the business and was wasting a lot of money.

When I listened to Lisa, I realized that most small and medium-sized businesses struggle to streamline processes in their business and this is mainly because they don’t have clear structures in place, which is why makes running the business difficult.

I told Lisa that she should have considered having clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that would have ensured that her company’s services were delivered consistently at all times, which would have made her job easier by standardizing organization process and helping guide it. employees on how the job should be done and completed, which would have saved his brand.

The other documents would have been HR policies and procedures to help it manage employee behaviors and clarify issues such as hours of work, days off and the disciplinary process. It would have given her the peace of mind of knowing that she was complying with the employment law and that her staff knew what was expected of them.

What Lisa also didn’t realize was that if she had the best talent that matched the roles she was looking to fill and the organizational culture, then her business would have performed much better.

Indeed, good employees are engaged, motivated and their productivity is high. They are attached to the company and are loyal. For Lisa, that would have meant having a high retention rate saving them the time and money she spent on recruiting, training and onboarding.
