New Fairfield names successor to outgoing CFO

NEW FAIRFIELD – With Ed Sbordone retiring at the end of the year, the city will soon have a new CFO.

Selectmen’s board of directors held a special meeting last week to appoint Volha Melnikov as Sbordone’s successor, effective October 25.

Sbrodone is not only the current chief financial officer of the city, but also the treasurer of the city of New Fairfield. He told Hearst Connecticut Media that he will retire from both positions on January 1, 2022.

“I’ll have 15 and a half years in total with the finance department – the last four and a half years as CFO,” he said.

Sbordone became Chief Financial Officer of New Fairfield in May 2017 after approximately two months in an interim capacity. Prior to that, he worked for several years as the city’s accounting director.

“It’s a sad day,” Selectman Khris Hall said Tuesday. “Ed, we really, really hate to see you go.” “

While Sborodone will be missed, Hall said Melnikov appears to be “highly qualified” to succeed him as CFO.

The Board of Selectmen appointed Melnikov with an annual salary of $ 109,000.

Sbordone said he enjoyed his time working for the city’s finance department, but looks forward to retirement.

“It was fun, but when it’s the time, it’s the time,” he said.

Sbordone said he would serve until the end of his term as a member of the Education Council and alternate to the city’s Building Standing Committee.
